The third round of the Southern Super Gas Series has been confirmed for Ballarat on Sunday, March 4, 2012.

Series spokesman Michael Bibby said with Ballarat Drag Racers Club coming on board with support for the series it completed the calendar for the 2011/12 season.

The second round of the Southern Super Gas Series is at Portland’s Fuchs South Coast Raceway at the Doorslammer Slamfest on February 3 and 4, with the final at the Nitro Champs in Sydney in March.

“When we started this series one of the things we set out to do was to not only provide additional racing opportunities for Super Gas competitors, but also to vary the formats to challenge the racers," Mr Bibby said.

"This continues with the Portland February event being a traditional elimination event with the possibility of first round buybacks while Ballarat will be a round robin event. Combine this with our unique points system of average qualifying ETs then this series does provide something different.”

V8 Supercar fans were recently able to get a taste of even more horsepower at the Telstra 500 in Sydney.

As part of a drag racing exhibition, many teams showed up to take the sport to a largely new and inquisitive audience.

There was a lot of interest in the "fire ups" and the nitro cars certainly grabbed a lot of attention. There was even a parade lap around the circuit that had spectators running from everywhere to see what all the commotion was about on the track.

Many families and kids wanted photos beside and in the cars and bikes and the gaps in between races meant there was a constant flow of people coming through the display area when there was no action on track.
