At just 24 years of age Lachlan Ireland is in prime position to take his first drag racing championship, an achievement many of his older rivals have been seeking for years.

The rider of the Lucas Oils Pro Stock Motorcycle leads by a slender 16 points from reigning champion Maurice Allen and needs to make sure he stays one step ahead of his rival, who has over two decades of experience riding the 300kph machines.

One thing the two have in common, besides their Victorian home bases, is fathers who led them into the sport and continue to provide critical behind-the-scenes help in bringing their sons to the forefront of the sport.


Kirsten Tucker, the sister of Pro Stock championship contender Shane Tucker, will make her professional drag racing debut at the Fuchs Winternationals at Willowbank Raceway on June 8-11.

The Carbrook, Queensland local will be the first female driver ever in the Pro Stock category in Australia, but is following in the footsteps of a long tradition of women making their mark in the professional levels of drag racing including Rachelle Splatt, Debbie Reed and Debbie O’Rourke.


The tight competition of the Pro Stock drag racing category continues to ramp up with teams calling in reinforcements ahead of the Fuchs Winternationals.

Several teams have allied to bring US engine tuner Rick Watters across the Pacific to assist including Jason Grima, Lee Bektash, Nino Cavallo and Wayne Daley. Watters will also be helping a range of teams from the Rocket Allstars Racing Series.


Drag racing fans from Brisbane and interstate will have a chance to get up close and personal with their favourite teams during the Fuchs Winternationals Fan Fest at both the Hyperdome shopping centre in Loganholme and the Riverlink shopping centre in Ipswich on Thursday, 7 June.

With many of the 480 teams rolling into Willowbank Raceway in the week ahead of the event, it will be a great opportunity to take the family out and be a part of the atmosphere of Australia’s biggest drag racing event.


Claiming a new national speed record in the Top Alcohol Funny Car class was just the icing on the cake for Gary Phillips after his Sydney Nitro Champs campaign netted the fifteen time champion a finals berth along with quickest elapsed time (5.471) and top speed (261.07mph/420.15kph) bonus points for the meeting.
