ANDRA Pro Series drag racing returns to TV screens this Sunday with the first show of the season on SBS Speedweek.

The show is part of a new TV package negotiated by ANDRA including shows on SBS and Speed Channel.

Featuring first is Top Fuel from the Fuchs Nationals held at Sydney Dragway. Included is an in-depth interview with retiring driver Bob Shepherd.

ANDRA Pro Series and Rocket Allstars Racing Series events will feature on SBS Speedweek almost every Sunday from now until April, so tune in and enjoy the show.

A change in licensing and vehicle equipment regulations will allow racers of high performance, off street vehicles to continue to participate in the safety of Australian National Drag Racing Association (ANDRA) sanctioned off street events.

ANDRA has recognised the safety standards of modern cars have increased and past limitations have been a barrier for entry to the sport and would like to encourage participants to continue to race their vehicles in a safe environment.

A new independent director has been appointed to the board of the Australian National Drag Racing Association.

Greg Griffith is the CEO of the Dairy Farmer Milk Co-operative and highly skilled in strategic design and implementation, negotiation, marketing and brand development, new market identification and entry, team development and team leadership, new business development and business networking.

Mr Griffith also has previous experience as general manager of sales and marketing for the Melbourne Football Club.

ANDRA CEO Greg Humphreys said the addition of Mr Griffith to the board provided more valuable skills for drag racing.

“Dairy farming and drag racing may seem entirely different fields but the business acumen is what we are after here,” Mr Humphreys said. “The experience of Mr Griffith in a large, member-based organisation and in a football club will serve our own sport very well.”

The third round of the Southern Super Gas Series has been confirmed for Ballarat on Sunday, March 4, 2012.

Series spokesman Michael Bibby said with Ballarat Drag Racers Club coming on board with support for the series it completed the calendar for the 2011/12 season.

The second round of the Southern Super Gas Series is at Portland’s Fuchs South Coast Raceway at the Doorslammer Slamfest on February 3 and 4, with the final at the Nitro Champs in Sydney in March.

“When we started this series one of the things we set out to do was to not only provide additional racing opportunities for Super Gas competitors, but also to vary the formats to challenge the racers," Mr Bibby said.

"This continues with the Portland February event being a traditional elimination event with the possibility of first round buybacks while Ballarat will be a round robin event. Combine this with our unique points system of average qualifying ETs then this series does provide something different.”
