Eddie Thomas (Photo: Ratliff family)The Australian National Drag Racing Association, its members, management and staff send their deepest condolences to the family and friends of Top Fuel pioneer, Eddie Thomas.

Eddie passed away earlier today at 99 years of age.

The founder of Redline Engineering, Thomas was widely regarded as a pioneer of the Top Fuel scene in Australia – he was not only the first into the tens, nines and eights, but also pioneered the use of parachutes and fire suits.

All at ANDRA are saddened to hear of Eddie’s passing, and send their commiserations to his family and friends at this time.

Following his world-record beating performances of late, ten-time ANDRA Champion John Zappia is looking to break the Perth Motorplex track record at this weekend’s Prestige Lock Service Goldenstates.

The Saturday November 11 event marks round five of the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series including racing for the Super Gas, Summit Racing Equipment Junior Dragster, Denso Super Street, Modified Bike, Super Sedan, Modified, Top Sportsman, Supercharged Outlaws, Competition, Super Stock and Competition brackets. The event will also host exhibition racing from Top Fuel Motorcycles, Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars, and Top Doorslammer racing in the local  Summer Slam Series – including local hero Zappia.

Graeme Simms is currently celebrating his 50th year of drag racing, and is hoping to punctuate it this weekend with a win at the Prestige Lock Service Goldenstates at the Perth Motorplex.

Over the past half-century, Simms has always competed in the Super Stock bracket while dabbling in “too many other classes to count” including a number of seasons in Pro Stock, holding records in B/Gas and F/Gas as well as B, C and D/MP.

Alan Mahnkoph (credit-Dave Hope)

Round two Supercharged Outlaws winner Alan Mahnkoph might have missed the last two rounds of the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series due to work commitments, but that hasn’t dampened his enthusiasm for this weekend’s round five at the Perth Motorplex.

The Prestige Lock Service Goldenstates will be held at the Perth facility this Saturday, November 11.

After three rounds of racing, the 2017 Summit Racing Queensland Championship winners have been awarded following the final round of competition at Ironbark Raceway (Roma) over the weekend.

 

Previously, the series had visited Palmyra Dragway (July 1 and 2) and Benaraby Raceway (September 3), employing a Chicago Shootout style of racing to the delight of racers and spectators.
