After 2 years on the sidelines due to a crash Kym Oberauer of KO Racing returned to the winners circle, not once, but twice during March. That's 2 from 2 in 2011.
And to say the Kym was happy (and a little surprised) is an understatement. “I had no expectations going into the meeting at Ballarat on the 6th of March. All I wanted to do was some testing and make sure the Camira would go straight and behave. I certainly didn’t expect to go rounds”.
After a nervous start Kym got back into the swing of things and decided to enter eliminations. 5 rounds later he took home the winner’s trophy over local Ballarat racer Scott Rouhan.
With success at Ballarat the team decided to try their luck and entered the Super Sedan bracket at the Supercharged Outlaws Meeting at South Coast Raceway on the 18th of March. Run as a 3 round Chicago Shootout, the electric orange Camira defeated local racer Chris Farrell in round 1, Tim Stone in round 2 and Mick Mahoney from SA in round 3.
In the final, Kym stayed ahead of last meetings winner, Brett Henley in his immaculate black Torana, taking the stripe with a backing off 6.01 on a 5.99 dialin.
“It’s been another great weekend for the team” remarked Kym, a very happy drag racer. “The Camira didn’t miss a beat the whole day. We didn’t take the bonnet off once; we just put fuel in it and went rounds. That’s my idea of a good days racing”.
Special thanks to Graeme Stevens for all his help to rebuild the Camira, Paul Rogers for squaring the car up and Bodyz by Nick for the paint and panel work.
