Willowbank Raceway offered Sportsman racers two events in one at the weekend and they responded with action-packed racing down the Ipswich quarter-mile in a dash for points and cash on Saturday November 27.

The day kicked off with Modified, Super Sedan, Super Gas, Modified Bike, Super Street, Street Sedan and Junior Dragster competitors taking part in two qualifying sessions before the race for Track Championship points got underway from midday.

Taking the wins while the sun shone were Bob Frawley (Modfiied) who beat son Graeme Frawley to the finish line; Noel Green in Super Sedan; Richie Paterson in Modified Bike; Brad Todd in Super Street; David Gauldie in Super Gas; Carol Ruachle in Street Sedan and Tazmin Wong in Junior Dragster.

Joining the younger of the Frawleys as runner-ups were Paul Doeblien (Super Sedan); Malcolm Brooks (Modified Bike); Daryl Williams (Super Street); Dale O’Dwyer (Super Gas); Matt Homan (Street Sedan) and Dale Duffy (Junior Dragster).

Once the sun went down, the dash for cash began, with all-in racing for all brackets aside from Junior Dragster and Modified Bike (who ran Chicago Shootout style bracket racing).

Taking the big win was Paul Doeblien in the Quick 32, taking the win from Kellie Kidd to earn the $300 cheque, with Kidd taking home $200 for her efforts.

Darren Doeblien took victory in the Next 32 bracket from Tony Wallace to claim his $300 while Wallace went home with $200, and Ken Moss beat Bob Frawley across the line in the Buy Back category – which allowed racers who had lost in the first round of 32 to buy back in for $20 to form the prize pool.

In the Modified Bike and Junior Dragster racing, it was Dennis Ryan of Raceview and Matthew Loy of Warwick who took the wins, pocketing $100 respectively. Daniel Sekli and Scott Boyde took runner up honours to claim $50 apiece.

Next up for Willowbank Raceway is the two-round New Year Series, to be held across January 2 and 3, and January 14 and 15.

ANDRA Pro Series brackets Top Fuel and Top Alcohol will take to the Ipswich quarter-mile over January 2 and 3, before Top Doorslammer and Pro Stock are joined by the fire-throwing Nitro Funny Cars on January 14 and 15.
