Heavy overnight rain forced the postponement of the 44th Castrol EDGE Winternationals at southern Queensland’s Willowbank Raceway until the weekend of July 15-17, 2011.

Qualifying was well underway and early racing rounds of some brackets had been completed when persistent showers began on Saturday evening. Continued showers were forecast for the region and the organisers were left with no option but to postpone completion of the event.

The action-packed Castrol EDGE Winternationals program will pick up where it left off – leaving two stunning rounds of ANDRA Pro Series qualifying, eliminations and all the Rocket Allstars action. All points additions, possible National Records, completed qualifying sessions and eliminations results to this stage of the event will apply in July.

“As well as the event itself, the Castrol Edge Winternationals incorporates the finals for all 17 Australian Championships.” said ANDRA CEO Tony Thornton. There were nearly 50 teams present from Western Australia alone, as well as a strong New Zealand contingent. 34 ANDRA Gold Christmas Tree trophies are still waiting at Willowbank Raceway to be handed over – one for each category winner and one for each Australian Champion.”

Willowbank Managing Director Steve Bettes said it was very regrettable that the final two days of racing had to be postponed. “With the forecast we had at hand there was little point waiting around to see if the rain would clear.” Bettes commented. “After many agonising hours overnight and consultation on Sunday morning, we felt the best option was to move the remainder of the event to July 15-17, 2011.
