ANDRA Pro Series Pro Stock has developed a reputation as being one of the tightest categories on the drag racing scene and spectators at the Castrol EDGE Winternationals re-run over the weekend of July 15-17 at Willowbank Raceway will see exactly why.
Australia's best Pro Stock racers are scheduled to return for the resumption of hostilities. The category has one test session and one qualifying session remaining and is the only category in Australian professional drag racing to run with a 'full 16 car field'.
The chase to the championship between Dave Newcombe and Aaron Tremayne is the one that everyone has their eyes on. With points awarded for the quickest time down the strip and fastest speed, the Series is balanced on a knife’s edge.
Newcombe was the quickest qualifier for the first two sessions on the June Long Weekend, until Victorian Mopar man, Lee Bektash chimed in during qualifying session three with a 7.030 second pass.
The question on everyone’s lips is who can break the “Magical Six Second Barrier” for the category. Australia is considered to be at the forefront of 400 cubic inch Pro Stock engine development around the world and some of the best American engine tuners are keeping a watching brief on what happens at the Castrol EDGE Winternationals, expecting a new world mark to be set.
The Castrol EDGE Winternationals “reheated” over July 15-17 will showcase a drag racing and entertainment extravaganza not seen outside of the United States. Static displays, trade stalls, roving entertainment and crowd giveaways all form a part of Willowbank Raceway’s marquee event.
Racefans are able to mingle and get up close to the stars and cars of the ANDRA Pro Series.
The Top Fuel field will feature superstar American, Cory McClenathan – the third best driver in the American NHRA Full Throttle Series last year.
“The Castrol EDGE Winternationals is the biggest drag racing event outside of the United States and we have had opportunity to build on the success of the first running of the event to make this second running even better,” said Steve Bettes, Managing Director, Willowbank Raceway.
“The response from competitors and fans alike has been nothing short of fantastic. Some of the quickest times in history were laid down back in June and I think you’ll see a continuation of that. With so many categories seeing their Championships coming down to the wire, everyone will have their game face on.”
Please see www.willowbankraceway.com.au for all ticketing information including information around pre-purchased tickets for the original June event.
Feature racing throughout the weekend will see the ANDRA Pro Series come to a conclusion – with Top Fuel (headlined by NHRA American superstar, Cory McClenathan), Top Doorslammer, Top Alcohol, Pro Stock, Top Bike and Pro Stock bike.
The Rocket All Stars Series and Sportsman racing will see their season’s come to a close as well, with racing from the following categories: Lifestyle Floorcoverings Competition, Lifestyle Floorcoverings Super Stock, NSANE.net.au Super Compact, Competition Bike, Allstar Batteries Supercharged Outlaws, Knijff Earthmoving Modified, Powercruise Super Sedan, Speed Elec/Prime Signs Super Street, Modified Bike, Donnelly Blasting Services Junior Dragster, Neptunes Pool Care Super Gas.
