2019 Westernationals Modified winner Cory Treasure says he is looking forward to returning to what is his favourite event on the calendar this weekend.
The 2020 Westernationals – which marks round eight of the 2019/2020 Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series – will be held this Saturday and Sunday (February 29 – March 1) at the Perth Motorplex.
“Last year’s Westernationals was just an awesome event,” Treasure said.
“2019 was my first full year of racing and the Westernationals has always been my favourite event on the calendar – so to be able to compete in at that event and then end up winning the Gold ANDRA Christmas Tree was a dream come true for both my dad (Kym Treasure) and I.”
Not surprisingly, the 25 year old Fabricator says he would love to back last year’s performance up with another victory; but he also has another hope for this weekend in mind.
“The car ran flawlessly last year and heading into this year’s event I am feeling very excited as it is running perfectly and my reaction times have been pretty consistent so far this season too,” he said.
“I would love to hand my dad another Gold ANDRA Christmas Tree this weekend, but the absolute dream come true would be to race my uncle and fellow Modified competitor Darryl Treasure in an all Treasure Family Racing final!”
The Brookdale (WA) racer is one of more than 210 competitors currently preparing for what will be the 49th running of the Westernationals event.
“I would like to thank KRU Engineering, K West Haulage, FORTRON, ALLFAST Race Convertors, Auto Masters Balcatta and DTM for all of their support and advice over our first full year of racing,” Treasure said.
“I also want to send a shoutout to my dad, brothers, sister and grandad – I couldn’t get down the track without the help from them.
“Here is hoping I can deliver some great results to them all this weekend to say thanks!”
The event will feature not only all the racing for the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series, but also Top Fuel, the West Coast Top Doorslammer Challenge and the West Coast Nitro Bike Challenge.
