As if motorsports fans needed any more reasons to attend this weekend’s ANDRA Pro Series event in Sydney, there will be plenty of bonuses both on and off the track for hardcore drag racing followers and their families.

Kids under 12 get in for free all weekend, so bring all their friends for a great day out.

Nitro will shake the ground on both days with Top Fuel exhibition passes from former Australian champion Phil Lamattina in the Fuchs dragster and Andrew Cowin in the Rocket Industries dragster.

Both guys are chasing some big numbers before they head to Adelaide for the Pro Series 1000 in April.

If fast sedans are more your thing then the Outlaw 10.5 shootout will be something to behold. There are only two rules for the Outlaw 10.5 class run by the Australian Pro Street Association (APSA) – you’ve got to have two swinging doors and tyres no bigger than the relatively skinny 10.5 inches wide.

The world’s fastest drag racing sedan, the 420kmh Ford Mustang of Rob Campisi, has donned the famed 10.5 inch tyres and has his eyes on the five second zone which would put him on world record pace.

“It’ll be fun to race the big nitrous cars as well as the blower (supercharger) guys,” he said. “We can definitely get the car down there but we’ll have to back it right down to begin with and use a little bit more finesse off the line until we find the sweet spot.”

Alongside Campisi will be the 14.2 litre Staunch Racing Camaro of Johnny Wilson and Simon Kryger. That capacity is not a typo; it is a monster engine with nitrous oxide assistance hopefully propelling the team deep into the six second zone.

“We don’t have restrictions on how many nitrous kits or what size engine we can use any more so there’s no more excuses,” Wilson said. “The turbo guys probably think they have us covered but they might be in for a bit of a surprise from the bottle boys!”

The well travelled Frank Mamone and his supercharged Chevy Nova has the most experience on 10.5 inch tyres and will have an ally in the supercharged ranks with Michelle Davies bringing her Holden Torana to be played.

Don’t let the eyelash-painted headlights fool you as Davies ran into the six second zone in her first test session on the skinny 10.5 tyres.

Once the family has taken in the wild action on the strip at Sydney Dragway, there will be plenty to keep them entertained throughout the day around the venue. There’s a jumping castle and a video game zone along with the Shannon’s Show and Shine to get an up close look at some amazing vehicles.

As always at Sydney Dragway, pit entry is free meaning fans can see the teams at work between rounds and interact with the drivers at a personal level. The heroes of ANDRA Drag Racing will be more than happy to sign autographs and speak with fans.
