Final brings smiles to Team Bray.
Team Bray has again enjoyed a successful outing in the ANDRA Pro Series with Ben Bray reaching the final at Sydney Dragway over the weekend.
Qualifying alone was a challenge with the first all five second field in the history of Top Doorslammer, but Bray and the Sidchrome Monaro proved they were up to it with a 5.90sec run getting him into the show.
Unfortunately Ben’s father Victor missed the cut with a 6.05sec best not quite enough.
In the first round of eliminations on Sunday Ben defeated Mark Belleri to set up a semi final duel against Peter Kapiris who had eliminated Sean Mifsud in round one. Ben received a ticket to the final thanks to Kapiris being unable to hold his car on the start line and rolling the beams.
The final was tight and though a 5.91sec from Ben with a .064 reaction time was a tough pass, the 5.83sec from Zappia was enough to clinch the win by just .005 after a slower reaction time.
“I had to bring the A-game out there with Zap, he always does good and you can’t rely on him to stuff up,” Bray said. “I thought it might have gone a little better than that, I guess the data will tell me, hopefully it wasn’t my driving.
“Team Bray is back with it, Dad’s driving the car perfect and we have a really great team.”
Victor said that he could not be happier with how strong the Top Doorslammer bracket was.
“To be able to get one car into the first ever all five second field is great,” he said. “The only down side is you know workshop bragging rights in Team Bray are a big thing and now that Ben is in front of me in the championship it is going to be a long six weeks until we are back here again for the Nitro Champs.”
Ben Bray now sits fifth in the points behind John Zappia, Peter Kapiris, Robin Judd and Mark Belleri.
