The Australian National Drag Racing Association (ANDRA) and the Sunraysia Drag Racing Association (SDRA) regret to announce the cancellation of the Sunset Strip Nationals.
The event, round three of the 2022/2023 Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series, was scheduled to be held this Saturday and Sunday (October 8/9) after being postponed from its original September 17/18 dates due to wet conditions at Mildura’s Sunset Strip.
While all possible efforts have been made by the SDRA and its team to ensure a race-fit venue, the rains which are forecast to fall across the remainder of this week means it will be impossible for the pits to be dry enough to cater for the required number of race teams and transporters in time for the event.
“No one ever wants to see events cancelled, but unfortunately despite the best efforts of everyone involved, we are left with no choice in this case,” ANDRA Chief Executive Officer, Brett Stevens, said.
“We would like to thank Kingsley Kuchel and the entire SDRA team for their tireless work over the last month to try and ensure this event could be held successfully and we look forward to returning to Mildura’s Sunset Strip for the Twilight Nationals in February 2023.”
“Hosting the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series events is a real highlight of our calendar, and we are very disappointed to be making this announcement today,” added SDRA President, Kingsley Kuchel.
“I would like to thank my team for all of their efforts as we tried absolutely everything we could to make sure we could go ahead this weekend, and I would also like to thank all of the racers for their understanding and support in light of the difficulties we have had around staging this event – we look forward to hosting you in February for the Twilight Nationals.”
Entrants will receive refunds of their entry fees from SDRA.
The next round of the 2022/2023 Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series will be the Goldenstates, held at the Perth Motorplex across November 11-12. For event information, visit www.motorplex.com.au
