The Board of Evolve Facility Management is happy to announce that interim Perth Motorplex General Manager Gavin Migro has now been formally appointed to the position of GM.

While Migro has held the interim position since September 2023 following the departure of previous GM Paul Trengove, he has been part of the Motorplex since before the first shovels of dirt were turned.

“I worked at Claremont Speedway for a number of years prior to its closure, and started out at the Motorplex in Marketing,” Migro said.

“When my father (Con Migro) – who had been Speedway Manager for more than 30 years at Claremont and then the first three at the Motorplex – decided to retire, it felt like a natural progression for me, so I put my hand up.”

That was at the end of the 2003/2004 season, with Migro holding the position of Speedway Manager ever since in a testament to his commitment to the Motorplex.

“My father and the late Gary Miocevich were instrumental in working with the then Government to construct this venue for both drag racing and speedway, and to continue their legacy is something I am really, really proud of,” Migro said.

“I really feel like we can create great events that the fans will get behind and the racers will love.

“We have some really exciting stuff coming up for all parts of the venue, including the High Limit International announced this morning and also lots of exciting things on the drag racing side.

“Drag racing is a really great sport and I am proud to be working with Ray Treasure and the rest of the team to try and take it to the next level here at the Motorplex while continuing and growing lots of our drag racing fan favourites such as the Goldenstates, Night of Fire, Nitro Max and the Westernationals, and we certainly have the skills amongst our team to do that.

“I am very excited about this wonderful opportunity, and I am very passionate about the venue – I love everything to do with the Motorplex – I think it is not only probably the most important motorsport venue in WA, I think it is perhaps one of the most important facilities in the nation, being so very successful while being so remote,” he concluded.

Evolve Facility Management is a subsidiary of the Australian National Drag Racing Association (ANDRA), with ANDRA Chief Executive Officer, Tim McAvaney, stating he was excited about what Migro is already working on for the venue.

“I have known Gavin for around thirty years and have seen him grow as a very capable, forward thinking, and progressive promoter in speedway racing,” McAvaney said.

“Gavin’s infectious enthusiasm and ability to sell motorsport, or anything for that matter, has seen the Perth Motorplex become a benchmark in world speedway racing, and all stakeholders are so supportive because of Gavin’s leadership.

“With Gavin’s direct input, the drag racing side of the business is looking so promising, and I am confident it will benefit in the same way as speedway has under his leadership.

“I would encourage the drag racing community to fully support Gavin’s vision and ability, and he will deliver for drag racing too.

“I am privy to some of the seeds already being sown by Gavin for drag racing and while these may need time to mature, it is so exciting!”

With Migro’s appointment to GM, a new Speedway Manager will be appointed in the near future.
