The ANDRA Grand Final at Dragway at The Bend across April 25 and 26 will bring to a close the 2024/2025 ANDRA Regional Sportsman Championship in spectacular style at what is shaping up as THE sportsman event of the year.
Gold ANDRA Christmas Tree trophies will be on offer at the event for both championship wins and event victories across 11 brackets, including South Australian Drag Racers Association Super Gas.
Heading to the final stand, it is a highly credentialed group of racers who are set to duke it out for the championship, with no less than eight ANDRA series championships to their names.
Adrian McGrotty, currently on the maximum 300 points cap, was the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series champion in 2019 and heads to the Grand Final with three wins in a row behind him. We caught up with McGrotty after the last victory, to find out what he had to say about his championship aspirations, please click here.
Three-time champion Colin Griffin (1998, 2017 and 2021) is just 40 points behind, while four-time series victor Graeme Spencer (2006, 2015, 2018 and 2022) is also still mathematically in with a shot on 200 points (there are 100 points on offer for an event victory).

“It is going to be tough to win the title, a lot would have to go my way. I would have to have a great day, and Adrian would need to have a bad day,” Griffin said.
“Adrian has had a great season with three wins in a row heading to the finale, so we need to try and stop his role,” he smiled.
“So, my focus will be to try and win the event and let the championship points take care of themselves.
“Of course, to win the ANDRA Regional Sportsman Championship would be awesome, that is why I race. And to get two trophies in one event would be an even more major achievement.
“I am lucky enough to have done it (win the championship and the final round) once before, and it was a great feeling.
“I wouldn’t say I am feeling confident – drag racing will knock the confidence out of ya real quick!
“And my car has occasionally done something small which it shouldn’t which has bitten me at the most inopportune times. My friends Doug and Chris Bracy were over recently on holiday from the US – Doug is a pioneer of West Coast Super Gas racing in the eighties and Chris is still a pretty handy SS/T (10.90) racer. Doug has a look at my data and has made a few suggestions to try, just small things, so that will be my focus, to try and get the car better.
“As with any ANDRA class, the person in the other lane is trying to knock you off, so you have to just do your best and if you do a better job, your win light will be on,” he concluded, while thanking Anne and Maggie for their support.
