Fowler Family Racing went back to back as Super Sedan champions in the Rocket Allstars Racing Series this season, earning the coveted gold Christmas tree and putting the cap on another season from one of Australia drag racing’s most well-travelled teams.
Steven, who races alongside his father Greg, was the one in the hot seat for the championship, with 180 points to his credit.
“Our expectations were not overly high seeing as we have previously gone into the final meeting maxed on 200 points to walk away with nothing, but taking out my second consecutive championship with less then the maximum points allowed made all hard work and effort put into the season worth it,” he said.
The team headed to Willowbank Raceway early to get in testing time with both Steven’s Chev Beretta and father Greg’s Pontiac GXP, which earlier this season reset the SS/A record.
“We headed up on Thursday a week ahead of the event to get some serious test time in, but Mother Nature had her own ideas on what the Winternationals should consist of – freezing temperatures, icing winds and of course enough rain to fill a small lake were just a few more things to add to the preparations,” he said.
Despite only one test pass for Steven, that was apparently enough as he cut consistent lights and had the Beretta running on song for the whole five days.
Steve and Greg are the first to admit that they have the fun job while their crew Jason, Dale, Anne, Jasmine and Vicki do all the hard yards.
“We want to thank our amazing crew for another awesome season and a great 13 days at the 2012 Fuchs Winternationals,” Steven said. “Our wonderful sponsors Graeme and Wendy Cowin from Aeroflow Performance Products give not only their personal support, but make the Rocket Allstars Racing Series possible.
“Winning one championship was great and backing it up this year was just awesome. We’re looking forward to next season to do it all again.”
