Reigning Super Gas champion Simon Isherwood had one problem with his national title, it came without a national event win. But that all changed at the recent Nitro Champs at Sydney Dragway where he scored big with a finals win against Roy Romeo.
Isherwood got his weekend off to a literally perfect start, going 0.000 on the reaction timers and then 9.900 at the other end on the set Super Gas index of 9.90.
Unbelievably he had a second perfect reaction time during eliminations, albeit running further off 9.90 this time around.
In his third finals appearance at the Nitro Champs, Isherwood was able to put it all together and take victory in a double breakout race against Romeo.
“It was a fairy tale weekend from the beginning,” he said. “We were elated to have achieved the perfect run, but to go on from there and win the event was the icing on the cake.
“The win sees us remain right up in the points chase to defend our national Super Gas title.”
Isherwood will be looking forward to his home round of the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship at Willowbank Raceway for the Fuchs Winternationals.
