With the change to a calendar year season, the period after the Fuchs Winternationals has now become a hotbed of activity for drag racing, particularly in regional areas.
This June and July sees two first time events on the ANDRA calendar, the Desert Nationals at Alice Springs Inland Dragway and the Benaraby Nationals at Benaraby Raceway, just outside of Gladstone. Both are rounds of the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship.
These events mark a great opportunity for both locals to earn points in the national championship and for travelling racers to compete at venues they may not have seen before and enjoy the regional racing experience.
Early bird entries for Alice Springs are open until 31 May, with the normal entry period ending 15 June and late entries ending 22 June. Thanks to funding from the NT Government, this event will be televised on SBS Speedweek. For Super Sedan racers it may be very much worth the tow, with a $10,000 shoot out being run!
Nominations for the Benaraby Nationals close on July 7 and with the track just a half a day drive from Brisbane, makes for a great opportunity for Queensland racers especially to score some extra Aeroflow points.
