Our American-based Aussies were in action again this past weekend at the Carquest Auto Parts NHRA Nationals in Phoenix, Arizona.
Shane Tucker secured his first win light on a .040 holeshot and 6.62 ET from number one qualifier Chris McGaha’s .134 RT and 6.57 ET.
As if he hadn’t shown off his skills enough, Tucker’s chutes got caught up and failed to deploy correctly resulting in some quick evasive action to get the car stopped.
Check out the footage below:
Unfortunately Tucker would bow out to V.Gaines in round 2 drifting out of the groove toward the wall on a 7.33 to Gaines’ 6.58.
GEICO/Lucas Oil Top Fuel driver Richie Crampton went down swinging in his matchup with 2012 champion Antron Brown.
Not long after he launched the tires started to smoke, and he slowed to a pass of 5.067 seconds at 149.48 mph. Brown, meanwhile, had a solid run of 3.825 seconds at 314.83 mph to get the first-round win.
He will now fly home to Adelaide to attend V8 Supercars Clipsal 500 at the weekend.
Finally, Dave “Grubby” Grubnic qualified seventh overall for Team Kalitta in Top Fuel but was also eliminated in round one by beaten finalist Brittany Force in a close fought battle .091 and 3.821 to .093 and 3.826.
