While the Most Powerful Motorsport in the World is personified by the nitro chugging stars of Top Fuel, the grassroots categories of the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship hold plenty of interest for hardcore fans.
Michael Voigtlander, otherwise known as Darth Vader, runs his 400 horsepower VX SS Commodore in Super Street and can’t wait to join the big boys at Sydney Dragway for the X-Champs this weekend.
“I look forward to this big meeting for the fact I see these great cars and get to race on the same track as my idols,” said Voightlander. “It’s a dream come true. I have to pinch myself.”
“I owe it all to my wife and family and friends and sponsors. Michael from speed For Sale Nitrous Refills has taught me so much in the last two years, his knowledge is invaluable.”
Voightlander gains an additional 125 horsepower shot from nano nitrous oxide, runs a turbo 350 gearbox, Sling Shot 4200 rpm stall converter, B&M quick shift and an LSD diff with 4.11 gears.
“My best ET is 11.003 with the old box and diff but it’s all new now and I’m retraining myself that D is no longer for drag racing. My new best (with this set up) is 11.203.”

The action continues through the weekend with elimination deciders set for Sunday May 4.
