The Willowbank Raceway Board has announced the appointment of long-time racer and successful business operator Greg Leahy to its ranks.
Leahy is the owner of Geezer’s Imports – an ISO9001 compliant Federal Government RAW (Registered Automotive Workshop) approved workshop for the import, conversion and sale of late model US vehicles as well as US classic and muscle cars.
He is also well-known in drag racing circles for his own racing exploits and as the son of the late Roly Leahy – a well-known stalwart of the nostalgia drag racing scene both in Australia and the United States.
Willowbank Raceway President Tony Wedlock said that as an accomplished businessman and racer, Leahy would offer the Board a valuable skill-set and perspective when he joins in 2015.
“While Greg is a racer and certainly understands the perspective, challenges and needs of the racing community, he is also an accomplished business owner,” said Wedlock.
“This sees him in possession of a strong broad-based business skillset which is exceptionally valuable to us as a Board, and we are certainly looking forward to working with Greg in the New Year.”
The 48 year old Leahy of the Gold Coast said he was honoured to be appointed to the Willowbank Raceway Board.
“I feel honoured that my peers have seen fit to bring me onto the Board and give me this important task of helping to run the facility which means so much to all of us,” said Leahy.
“There will be a lot for me to learn, but I am looking forward to hitting the ground running and to getting my first year on the Board under my belt in 2015.”
Leahy’s appointment follows from the announcement last week that long-time Board member Steven Reed has stepped down after 15 years on the Board.
