Brisbane-based Drag Racing legend, 'The Pom' Steve Read will be taking the Brisbane Truck Centre brand down the quarter mile at 300mph at the 2015 Fuchs Winternationals at Willowbank Raceway, on June 4-7, after signing a marketing partnership deal with the Rocklea-based Truck Sales facility.

“To say I’m thrilled is an understatement”, Read said, late Friday.  “I’ve logged thousands of hours and thousands of kilometres hauling up to 65 ton each trip across this great country, and the team at Brisbane Truck Centre share that enthusiasm for the open road and high quality trucks to make that important job a safe one”.

The switch from 18 wheels to 8,000 horsepower is something Read has done for over 20 years with great success.

Read, who runs an interstate logistics company by day, said that the partnership with Brisbane Truck Centre is a natural fit, with hundreds of truck drivers attending the annual Drag Racing mega-event at Ipswich.

“Truck drivers are naturally mechanically-minded, and showing them how these Top Fuel Dragsters cover the quarter mile in 4 seconds at 300mph is something that always blows their mind”, Read said. “Not only that, we’ll have a chance to talk to people about the latest technology and innovations that are on offer within the MAN, Western Star and Dennis Eagle trucks through Brisbane Truck Centre”, Read said.

After a strong semi-finals finish at the 2014 Winternationals, Read knows that qualifying for this year’s Eliminations is going to be worth the price of admission alone.

“Two cars will miss out on Sunday. There’s 10 top-quality cars out there, and only 8 spots for eliminations, so we need to be on the pace quickly. The crowd will get their money’s worth to see how this all plays out. It’s going to be intense”, Read said. “With that in mind, I firmly believe we have a shot at taking out the event with this Brisbane Truck Centre Dragster – let’s get after it!”.
