Graeme Simms is currently celebrating his 50th year of drag racing, and is hoping to punctuate it this weekend with a win at the Prestige Lock Service Goldenstates at the Perth Motorplex.
Over the past half-century, Simms has always competed in the Super Stock bracket while dabbling in “too many other classes to count” including a number of seasons in Pro Stock, holding records in B/Gas and F/Gas as well as B, C and D/MP.
The now-retired fitter and turner has also raced in the United States in the early 70s in a BB/FC, mainly on the match racing circuit.
“The Goldenstates is and has been one of the premium meets here in Perth – I have won it several times and would love to win it again,” Simms said, who thanks Motor Hound Merchandise and Maxima Oil for their support of his racing program.
“This is my 50th year of drag racing and I have travelled all over the world both racing and being a spectator, and nothing comes close to the Perth Motorplex in my opinion for the sportsman racers.”
The 70-year old Perth-based racer is not only hoping for a victory this weekend, but also hopefully the beginning of more racing this season.
“We unfortunately missed the first three rounds of the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series, but if we can do well this weekend we will be looking at doing the next three rounds over on the East Coast,” he explained.
This Saturday’s (November 11) event will mark the fifth round of the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series, hosting racing from the Super Gas, Summit Racing Equipment Junior Dragster, Denso Super Street, Modified Bike, Super Sedan, Modified, Top Sportsman, Supercharged Outlaws, Competition, Super Stock and Competition brackets.
The event will also host exhibition racing from Top Fuel Motorcycles, Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars, and Top Doorslammer racing in the local Summer Slam Series.
