Pro Stock competitor Chris Soldatos will compete at South Coast Raceway’s South Coast 660 next weekend in close friend Craig Geddes’ Cavalier.
The January 20/21 event marks round seven of the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series.
With Geddes at the wheel, the 2004 Cavalier - a new car for Geddes - took out the Super Stock honours at the last round of the Series: the Rowe Memorial at Calder Park.
Now, Soldatos will take over the driving duties while Geddes looks to run his dragster for the remainder of the season.
“I wanted to run two cars at Portland, so I rang up Chris and asked if he wanted to drive – originally we were going to put him in the dragster, but I decided after that I want to run it for the rest of the season,” Geddes explained, while thanking his sponsors for allowing the team to operate at a two-car level.
“It is very exciting to have Chris on board, he lives close by and we have been very good friends for a long time. It will be good to support the event with an extra Group Two car and I am keen to see what Chris can do at the wheel!”
For Soldatos, a smash repairer from Castlemaine, fun is the main goal for the weekend; perhaps with a record thrown in.
“I don’t really have any expectations – the last time I ran something like this was back in my Competition days, but hopefully I can go alright,” Soldatos said, while thanking sponsors Tingays Smash Repair in Castlemaine, Perrows Paints, Castle Auto Electrics and Ridgeway Motorsports for their support of his racing.
“I haven’t driven the car before and it has an automatic transmission where I normally drive a manual, but we will see – maybe we can run close to the record and see what we can do, all we can do is try!
“I have only ever been to South Coast Raceway as a spectator and only the once, it looks pretty good and I hear good things. It is a nice area down there, I am looking forward to getting on track.
“I have to thank Rob and Craig for giving me the opportunity to drive the car – all we can do is do what we can, it is going to be a fun weekend!”
Round seven of the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series will be held at Portland’s South Coast Raceway on January 20 and 21.
