Over the next two weekends, the 2024/2025 ANDRA Regional Sportsman Championship will provide no end of sportsman thrills from ANDRA members at both Dragway at The Bend (February 8-9) and the Atlantic Oils Sunset Strip (February 14-15, Twilight Nationals).
These events will mark rounds five and six respectively of the 2024/2025 season, which sees racers battling it out for the honour of claiming the 2024/2025 ANDRA Champion Gold Christmas Trees, to be awarded at the ANDRA Grand Final (April 25-26, Dragway at The Bend).
With such reward on offer, every point counts and a large number of competitors will be making the most of their opportunity by competing in both of these back-to-back events.
Mildura’s Derryn McGregor and his sons Deklan McGregor (11) and Lachlan (9) McGregor will be doing so as a family, with Sunset Nationals winner Derryn competing in Ballistic Performance Parts Modified Bike and Deklan and Lachlan lining up in Langtree’s Machinery Services Junior Dragster.

“For me it is no longer about me, it is about my two kids racing and us doing it all together,” Derryn said.
“The boys enjoy racing so much and would do it every weekend if they could, so racing two back to back weekends works for them.
“Running a bike and two Junior Dragsters is definitely challenging at times, but thankfully I have us down to a pretty low maintenance program, which doesn’t require much work between rounds. I should be able to just pull it all out of the trailer and do the normal checks and send it.
“We are looking forward to it, and to have some success there would definitely make us happy. But for us, the main focus is on having fun together as a family,” Derryn concluded, while thanking his wife Michelle for her support.
In Modified, Kilmore (Victoria) racer Cory Dyson will also be doing the double and is particularly looking forward to competing alongside the Pro Drag Racing Championship (PDRC) across February 8 and 9 at Dragway at The Bend.
“I am really looking forward to getting back to the Bend, it is an amazing facility and racing alongside the pros is always a great atmosphere, so I can’t wait!” said Dyson, who like Derryn McGregor, also took victory in his bracket at the Sunset Nationals in September.
“We are certainly looking to hopefully gain some ground on the front runners across the next few weekends to try and get up in the points, but in this class you never know what will happen – it is always super tough.
“The best part is that we have the back-to-back weekends which is amazing, it keeps the momentum going, so I am really looking forward to racing at both the Bend and Mildura.
“We are coming into these events unchanged and running with what we know wins, so we are really hoping for a great showing in the next few weeks for my amazing sponsors Mobil 1, statewide oils, Glass Protech Glass Protection, and Associated Cold Tread Tyres.”
