Time is running out to get entries in for the Benaraby Nationals to be held October 3-4, 2014 at Benaraby Raceway in Queensland.
The 2014 Benaraby Nationals represents the first time the ANDRA Drag Racing Series will visit Central Queensland with Round 4 of the Australian Pro Stock Championship.
In addition, the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship will return for the second year running after several 660 feet National records were set by Greg Clayton (BB/A – 3.973 ET/ 176.47 mph), Robert Coleman (BB/GA – 4.521 ET) and Jason Simpson (G/GA – 5.223 ET / 130.43 mph) in 2013.
The event in just over two weeks is a culmination of the work put in by the Central Queensland Drag Racing Association Incorporated (Benaraby Raceway) over the past few years to modernise the Drag Racing facility.
With the assistance of a grant, the Association has revamped the drag strip with the installation of concrete to the 660 feet mark. A new Porta-Tree system was installed along with LED readout boards while the braking area was extended by 87 meters with asphalt as well as the sand trap at the end of the strip.
Other upgrades have included widening the turn off loop and repairs to the racing surface. Concrete walls have continued to be built from the start line to the braking area and a concrete slab has been poured off to one side of the return road to facilitate scales when needed.
Competition Eliminator, Supercharged Outlaws and Pro Stock will compete over the 1000 feet race distance. All other categories/brackets will compete over the full quarter mile (1320 feet) pending final entries.
