Maurice Brennan is licking his lips rather than licking his wounds as he now focuses on his next attempt at running ANDRA Pro Series Drag Racing in March next year, despite not making the show for last weekend's Top Doorslammer round and crashing his car and trailer on the way home from the event.
"We were on the way home from a pretty disappointing weekend, only to have someone cut in front of me, and when I brought on the brakes, the trailer carrying the racecar jacknifed and sideswiped my Land Cruiser and then snapped off the hitch and headed straight towards the armco," a shaken Brennan reported.
“We’re so thankful that nobody was hurt and the racecar is okay apart from a few scratches, but the trailer and Cruiser will probably be junked which will force us to rethink our transportation options for the future. We’ve had so many phone calls of encouragement and care for which we are very thankful, so you can’t help but love being a part of this wonderful drag racing community.”
The accident added salt to the wounds of the weekend for the Boomeracing crew whose national records in the neighbouring AA/AP class to Top Doorslammer forecasted a realistic chance of getting in to the tight eight car field.
However, the marriage of a familiar clutch to a new motor created enough inconsistency to only register a time sixteen hundredths of a second away from their personal best and not good enough to make the cut.
By the end of Brennan’s three qualifying sessions on the Friday evening, his 6.26 was enough to hold him the field marginally before a late burst of brilliance by Adam Croker upstaged the Iluka racer, bumping him out of the field.
“Drag Racing is about reducing the variables, and this weekend we took too many risks with an engine and clutch combination that just didn’t have enough passes behind it, but as disappointing as that is, hey… we’ve finally realised our dream of racing Top Doorslammer and now we can’t wait for the Westernationals in March when we join the ANDRA Pro Series circus again,” an always optimistic Brennan said.
Prior to the March event, the K-Trans/Carpet Court Joondalup/Crown Integrated Commodore will take to the Perth Motorplex for three events, with the next outing as part of the Nitro Funny Car Challenge on Boxing Day
