South Aussie mechanic Michael Bridges will be looking to continue his tour of fun ‘up north’ this weekend at Alice Spring Dragway’s Desert Nationals (July 21/22).
The Super Street racer along with his crew, partner Kerri and daughter Tayla travelled all the way from Morphett Vale (SA) to Darwin (NT) last week for Nitro Up North and are staying on in the Territory for this weekend’s Desert Nationals – round two of the 18/19 Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series.
“The Hidden Valley Drag Strip (Darwin) is a fantastic venue and the Nitro Up North event was run very well. I will tell you what though, it was sure nice to get out of the cold weather of Adelaide too,” laughed Bridges, who thanks Smart Auto Wreckers and Towing, DragsSA.com and the SA-travelling crew for all of their support.
“It was a bit disappointing to red light by such a fine margin (-.002s) in the first round against eventual winner Theo Karamanidis, but that is racing isn’t it! Hopefully we can go more rounds in Alice Springs, but no matter what happens we will be having a ball.”
Before they get to Alice Springs, Bridges and his crew are enjoying some of the sights of the Northern Territory.
“We are spending the week doing some local sight-seeing, we have already done the Crocodile Feeding Tour on Adelaide River and it is certainly well worth doing,” said Bridges, who races a Chrysler Centura in the popular bracket of the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series
“We are travelling with a good group of friends and have had a lot of fun on the road already, so no matter what our results are at either track we are all having a ball.”
When the time does come for the Desert Nationals to kick-off this Saturday, Bridges will be enjoying his fourth visit to the venue.
“The first time I went to Alice Springs I thought it would be a once-off to be able to say we had done it, but I think it will be on my calendar every year now – we love going there, it is a very well run track,” Bridges said.
“As racers we all want to take home a win, but if we can take the car home without having wrecked anything, to have just gotten there and competed in the event will be a win for us.
“It is all about just being a part of the event, having a ball and whatever happens from there, happens.”
Round two of the 18/19 Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series, the Desert Nationals, will be held at Alice Springs Inland Dragway next weekend across July 21 and 22. For more information on that event, please visit www.andra.com.au or and www.cadra.com.au
