John Cannuli could be excused for finding it hard to focus at the Fuchs Winternationals this weekend at Willowbank Raceway.
As well as competing in both Top Alcohol with his Wash It Funny Car and Top Doorslammer with the PC Cranes Camaro, Cannuli will be watching the competition debut of wife Kirsten Tucker in Pro Stock.
“I’m excited for Kirsten to finally get behind the wheel, it’s something that she’s wanted to do for a long time and now she’s finally accomplishing her dream of becoming a professional drag racer,” he said. “She’s actually had her helmet and race suit for over two years but unfortunately the time just hasn’t been right for her to go racing until now.
“As a driver, Kirsten will do a great job. I fully support her and couldn’t be more confident in her driving abilities after the way she’s performed in testing – she’s a natural.”
In terms of his own performances, Cannuli feels the team has worked hard and deserves some more rewards. He won the Pro Series 1000 in Adelaide in Top Alcohol and is now seeking the same success with the Top Doorslammer. In his last outing Cannuli had the misfortune to run a five second pass in qualifying but still miss the cut in a record field.
“To run a five, our first in the Top Doorslammer, and not qualify was absolutely gut wrenching,” he said. “The team worked so hard and even though it was a good result time wise, it just goes to show you how tough the bracket is.
“But the Fuchs Winternationals is the place to turn it all around and we’ll be doing our best to get back into the five second zone and the field.”
The Fuchs Winternationals takes place on June 8-11 at Willowbank Raceway near Ipswich, Queensland. The full ANDRA drag racing experience will be on show including all pro categories and the best sportsman racers in the nation taking part in the Rocket Allstars Racing Series.
