Victorian drag racing veteran Paul Rogers Sr has been awarded the inaugural Speedcafe.com Spirit of Speed Volunteer of the Year award, presented by Dunlop.

Australian Drag Racing legend Jim Read has been inducted into the 2017 CAMS "Hall of Fame", presented by Speedcafe.com tonight at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Swan Hill Rural City Council has committed funds to lift the city’s quarter mile drag strip to Australian racing standards.

The 2017 Australian Motorsport Hall of Fame Induction Gala – presented by Speedcafe.com, is coming up on Friday night, March 24 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre at 7:30 pm for an 8 pm start.

It was a huge weekend for Sydney’s Frank Mamone, going through to the finals of a very tough Top Doorslammer at the 46^th Westernationals.

However, Mamone and crew went home with an empty trailer when fellow Top Doorslammer racer Steven Aldridge made an offer on the Cuda Mamone couldn’t refuse.

Steve Aldridge and the Crown Security Top Doorslammer team have been showing potential beyond the capacity of their 20-year old '55 Chev-bodied Murray Anderson chassis.

That potential may be realised next season with the news that Aldridge has taken delivery of the ex-Frank Mamone Plymouth Barracuda, to step his operation up to the next level.

John Zappia claimed an unprecedented tenth ANDRA Top Doorslammer Series title with his Fuchs Holden Monaro on Sunday at Perth Motorplex's Westernationals, adding to his record of dominance in one of Australian drag racing's most competitive categories - and winning the Westernationals on his home turf was an added bonus.

Team Bray Racing felt the heat at the weekend’s Westernationals (Perth, March 4-5) in more ways than one, but that hasn’t stopped them from feeling positive as they leave the venue to prepare for a busy month ahead.

It was another hot and humid day that greeted racers and fans for day two of the 46^th Westernationals, however the action on the track was even hotter with John Zappia taking home another Top Doorslammer victory and more ANDRA gold.

When the news let it be known that the forecast over the weekend was for hot and humid temperatures in the high 30’s, it was game on. Saturday’s qualifying saw even the toughest racers struggle during the sessions where track temps reached around 120 degrees.

John Zappia might have emerged as the winner of the Goldenstates at Perth Motorplex several weeks ago but it came at a cost with bent rods on two separate runs and a close challenge from Scott MacLean.

With only two Group 1 events left on the Australian National Drag Racing Championship calendar, racers are moving into top gear as they seek to gain as many points as they can prior to the season finale - Summit Racing Equipment Drag Racing Grand Finals – at Adelaide International Raceway on March 31^st and April 1^st.

For the Top Alcohol category, the Westernationals will be their second opportunity to gain valuable points in the 2016/17 ANDRA Drag racing Series.
