Eight new 1000 feet national records were set in the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series at the VPW Pro Series 1000 in Adelaide over the weekend.

Toowoomba Pro Street racer Scott Cortina has a busy few weeks ahead, entered in both this weekend’s Pro Street Shootout (21 March) and Easter Saturday’s (4 April) Santo’s Super 3 Extreme Drag Race Event presented by Uplift Cranes and Titan Cranes – for which he is the reigning Pro Street class winner.

Both NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car champion and Top Fuel pilot Richie Crampton were in action this past weekend at the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Florida.

John Zappia has taken a commanding lead in the ANDRA Top Doorslammer championship with victory over Pino Priolo at the VPW Pro Series 1000 in Adelaide.

Gary Phillips, John Zappia and Maurice Allen all showed their class in qualifying first in Top Alcohol, Top Doorslammer and Pro Stock Motorcycle respectively at the VPW Pro Series 1000 in Adelaide.

Qualifying is run and done in the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series in for the VPW Pro Series 1000 at Adelaide International Raceway.

What was to be a pure Super Stock field at this weekend’s Round 3 of the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series at VPW Pro Series 1000 will now amalgamate to Super Comp, not that it fazes former Super Stock champion Jim Ioannidis.

Scott White remembers the last time he was at Adelaide International Raceway very well. It was at the 2014 Fuchs Spring Nationals for Round 4 of the ANDRA Pro Stock Motorcycle Championships.

The Darwin-based rider qualified third in the field of six riders with a 7.413 elapsed-time. However in the first round of competition, White experienced one of those career moments when he defeated Rookie Ryan Learmonth with a PB time of 7.20 seconds. This not only was a giant performance leap for White but the ET also stood as the quickest run of the year for the bracket. 

The good fortune looked to continue in the semi finals against Maurice Allen. “Incremental times were looking even better and combined with the holeshot startline advantage I had on Maurice, it looked like a winner. However I was unable to shift out of third gear when the air shift line blew off,” said White. This allowed Maurice to catch up and cross the finish line ahead of me.”

This coming weekend White is ready to go one-step further at the VPW Pro Series 1000. “Rino from Racing Onn Promotions has been working hard on the promotional path with some drag racing demonstrations at the V8 Supercars Clipsal 500. As a result it will hopefully pack the venue out again,” said White.

One of Australia’s longest running motorsport partnerships has strengthened with Rare Spares increasing its presence on Australian drag racing legend Graeme Cooper’s iconic ‘Bricklayer’ Holden EH Premier Station Wagon.

The VPW Pro Series 1000 at Adelaide International Raceway this weekend marks the return of Gerry Parente to ANDRA Championship Drag Racing after an absence of at least 14 years.
