ANDRA and Willowbank Raceway are pleased to announce an exciting new event will be added to the 2013 calendar featuring championship rounds of Top Fuel and Top Alcohol.

The Santo’s Cranes Super 3 Extreme Drag Race concept, featuring the Louie Rapisarda Top Fuel Trophy Race, will see professional drag racing not only return to the Easter timeslot (29-30 March 2013) at Queensland’s premier drag racing facility, but do so with a format never before seen in Australian title competition.

Queensland’s Steve Reed is one of the veterans of Australian drag racing, with a family that gives his team an extra edge when it comes to competing in one of the closest divisions in the sport – Top Alcohol.

When races are decided by just thousandths of a second at speeds well over 400kmh, each decision is crucial and it would seem that of recent times the Reed family has been making a lot of right ones.

Fuchs Top Fuel dragster pilot Phil Lamattina made his third finals appearance in row in the third round of the ANDRA Top Fuel championship in Perth on the weekend.

There were more threes after qualifying in the number three position, with Lamattina and crew chief Aaron Hambridge making dramatic changes to the tune-up for the first round of eliminations.

“We found the conditions tricky early but once we got our head around what was required, we knew we could go quick and fast," Lamattina said.

“The racetrack got better and better as the race meeting went on and to be honest, it was as good as anything we have ever raced on.”

The first round of eliminations saw Lamattina face off against good friend and West Australian local Allan Dobson.

Tuner Aaron Hambridge said the team added a bit more to the tune-up for the confrontation.

Mark Sheehan put a stop to Darren Morgan’s winning streak on Saturday night at Perth Motorplex, taking victory in spectacular fashion in the third round of the ANDRA Top Fuel championship.

Sheehan defeated Morgan in the opening round and then went on to eliminate Phil Lamattina, who remains winless this season despite three straight finals appearances in the Fuchs dragster.

Old sparring partners Victor Bray and John Zappia matched up again at Perth Motorplex on Saturday night with Bray emerging as the upset winner in round two of the ANDRA Top Doorslammer championship.

It was a night to remember for Bray, with the Queensland-based tomato farmer also running his first ever five second passes, a 5.96 in the semi finals backed up with a 5.95 in the final.
