Move to calendar year coming

This weekend’s upcoming Westernationals may play an early-season role in 2013 with ANDRA today confirming that it will be moving to a calendar year season.

The move to a calendar year was tabled by representatives from across the drag racing industry at the national summit in 2011 and ANDRA has since been working with venues around the nation to build a new calendar.

Return Salvo

Super Stock’s over subscribed field will ensure dramatic battles across both qualifying and eliminations at the Westernationals this weekend.

Back on track for the first time in a while is Steve Flynn, at the wheel of Frank Salvo’s Camaro.

Flynn is one of the stalwarts of Super Stock but is yet to add a Westernationals victory to his list of achievements despite reaching three finals in seven attempts.

Super Gas Series moves on to Ballarat

The Southern Super Gas Series heads to Ballarat this Sunday March 4 for the third round of the series. This is another round robin event with the event winner receiving a bonus package of Lucas Oil products.

Records under threat

Some national records could be set to fall in the Modified division this weekend in Perth at the running of the Rocket Allstars Racing Series at the Westernationals.

Rhett Cooper-Fowle and Ian Forrest have both been using six cylinder motors in preference to V8 combinations and are now eyeing off marks in the B/MA and B/MD classes respectively.

Parker back to successful hunting ground

Victorian Darren Parker is readying to join a strong field of Super Stock competitors at the Westernationals at Perth Motorplex on March 3 and 4.

Parker has a successful past at Perth, having won in Super Sedan in 2007.

This time his Jerry Hass-built Pontiac GXP will be doing battle against 16 other teams, many of whom are capable of setting national records.

Prizemoney scale brought in for select events

Following a full day conference with all major tracks, ANDRA, who has taken on the full responsibility of the management, marketing and funding of championship drag racing, has resolved to request the tracks to run the events on a graduated prizemoney scale up until the time sponsorship becomes available to fund the series. The entire prize money system will then be reviewed for the 2013 season.
