Chris Matheson’s Nitro Voodoo Team has won the opening Round of the Pro-Series Championship. The win took place at the recent Fuchs Australian Nationals held at Sydney Dragway over the weekend of 9-11 September.

Matheson also came away with Lowest ET for the Round, giving the Team a solid foundation for the new Season Championship points chase.

Veteran Melbourne drag racing competitor and official, Ian Smith has described his and son Warren’s win at the recent Fuchs Australian Nationals at Sydney Dragway as the highlight of the family’s almost 50 years in the sport.

A lifelong fan, Smith senior attended the first Australian Nationals at the now defunct Riverside strip in Melbourne in 1965, most likely with his now 48 year old son as a babe-in-arms.

The 2011 Track Championship Series came to a thrilling end on Saturday night at Hidden Valley Drag Strip where the series came down to the final passes of the season.

Going into the start of the final event, the first and second place holders for both Modified Bike and Outlaw brackets were separated by only five points.

In his forty-first year of competition, Gary Phillips has put the nightmare fortieth season behind him by winning the Australian Nationals in Top Alcohol at Sydney Dragway last weekend.

Labelling last season as a “cocktail of shocking weather and bad luck that I would rather forget,” Phillips committed to going back to a known parts batch this season, and right from securing the second qualifying spot at the start of the weekend with a 5.540 at 256.45 mph, the Lucas Oils Racing Team was back in the form that had earned their fifteen national championships.

The Pro Street drag racing world will be focused on Willowbank Raceway, when the Pro Street Shootout Grand Finals hit Queensland’s premier drag strip on Saturday September 17.

Drag racing is about eliminations well it seems Top Gear Australia (TGA) only got three passes down the track.

TGA season 4 has only aired three of their six show series with the final show opening with a well explained story on the challenging aspects of learning to drive a Dragster.

Maurice Fabietti has given the Holden Trade Club Top Doorslammer team’s Fuchs Australian Nationals campaign a pass following a first round loss at Sydney Dragway yesterday.

The Holden Trade Club Monaro underwent a major mechanical change over the short offseason with the fitting of a Lencodrive transmission that utilises a torque converter rather than a clutch.
