As far as last minute inclusions into the 44th Castrol EDGE Winternationals Top Fuel field goes – they don't come much bigger than NHRA superstar, Cory McClenathan – who will take to the wheel of a Rapisarda Racing machine for the event at Willowbank Raceway, June 10-13.

With 34 NHRA final round wins from 71 finals appearances to his credit, 'Cory Mac' is a stellar inclusion into the field.

Dear passionate Drag racing fans. Yesterdays unfortunate butchering of the Nitro Champs Top Fuel show was as upsetting to those of us who made it as it was to you the expectant viewer. A series of live TV events on either side of the show meant that the program was forced into a slot it did not fit.

John Zappia and his crew from Zappia Racing took the long haul road trip from Sydney to Darwin to compete in the Macmahon Grand Re-Opening of the Hidden Valley Drag Strip presented by 7mate, and had such a good time they vowed to return again.

Affectionately known in Australia as the Top End, Darwin is the smallest and most northerly of the Australian capital cities, and acts as the Top End's regional centre. Darwin has grown from a pioneer outpost and small port into one of Australia's most modern and multicultural cities.

One of the key vehicles in the history of Australian drag racing will be on show at Willowbank Raceway's Castrol EDGE Winternationals (June 10-13).

The Australian Dragfest tour of six US drag racers some forty-five years ago is often credited with inspiring today’s Aussie drag racing scene, and after many years of effort one of those six dragsters – the front engined dragster of Bob Keith – has been recreated and will go on display for the first time at the largest drag racing event outside of the US.

At the 2010 Castrol EDGE Winternationals the Top Doorslammer ANDRA Pro Series Championship fight came down to nine points and two racers, with John Zappia and Robin Judd taking the battle all the way to the very last run of the season.

In 2011, while the contenders may have larger point buffers between, there are more of them – with four racers to head to the June 10-13 event at Willowbank Raceway very much in the fight for the national championship title.

For the Jason Hedges Racing team (JHR), the 2010/2011 ANDRA Pro Series has been a career year. Thus far this year, the JHR team has not endured any first round losses, with the team advancing to the semi-finals in two of the three events that have been completed this season.

Current ANDRA Pro Series Australian Top Fuel Championship leader, Darren Morgan isn’t allowing the frustration of the Sydney Nitro Champs get to him as he eyes off the season-ending Castrol EDGE Winternationals in just three weeks time.

Morgan took his AEG Powertools/Hungry Jacks Mildura 8000 horsepower dragster into last month’s Nitro Champs at Sydney Dragway 122 points ahead of nearest rival – Phil Lamattina and had the chance to wrap the Championship up.

Since the implementation of the new administration process for tech inspections, sticker issue and log book applications, a trend has been emerging that is creating issues for Tech inspectors scheduling their commitments to inspect vehicles.Trends are:

  • Racers are not allowing adequate time to carry out inspections prior to events
  • Racers are not allowing the 21 day turn around at head office for processing of applications

If Darren Morgan claims the ANDRA Pro Series Top Fuel Championship at Willowbank Raceway’s Castrol EDGE Winternationals over June 10-13, it will be the first time an owner/driver has taken the title since Jim Read in 2006.

Morgan, who won the 2004/2005 Top Fuel championship driving for Lamattina Top Fuel Racing before starting his own team Darren Morgan Racing, is currently 101 points ahead of the last-round winner Read – a three-time Top Fuel champion and son of Jim Read.
