There is always something about a fresh start, and Nitro Up North V3 was the perfect event to kick off the 2017/18 Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series.

The 10 date series opens this weekend with the Central Swing’s opening Nitro Up North event at Hidden Valley Raceway, followed one-week later with the Desert Nationals at Alice Springs Inland Dragway.

Brodie was pretty much born into the sport of Drag Racing, watching Uncle John race and being part of Zap’s crew – his job then was to chalk the wheelie bar.

Ian Read has never been to the Northern Territory, but he’s about to tick it off his bucket list. The opportunity to race at two drag strips he’s only ever seen in photos online is shaping up to be something special for the West Aussie racer.

Drag racing isn’t just about going fast – it’s looking good while you’re doing it. And there is a guy who knows how to do both coming to Nitro Up North in Darwin.

Western Australia’s drag racing rider of the year Zoe Nieuwhof has nominated for Nitro Up North, aiming to make her mark on Darwin for the first time.

It’s far from the wet season in the Northern Territory, but one drag racer will be aiming to break a two-decade drought when he competes at Nitro Up North on July 21 and 22 at Hidden Valley Drag Strip.

Modified Bike will be hotly contested bracket at Nitro Up North, with three entrants having won four ANDRA Championships between them. In the spotlight is current Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Champ Bryan Finn, who having gone back-to-back in 2016 and 2017, will no doubt be looking to make it three-in-a-row this coming season. In fact, if he does, he will create Modified Bike history.

Encouraged by a strong finish in the 2016/17 Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series, South Australian Jason Arbery is ready to take his Chev-powered Ford Capri to the next level.

One car that has recently created a lot of interest on social media is the new Euro ride of Steve Norman. It’s a complete package created by Ryan and Reg Lee in South Australia and its no doubt a work of art and the fact that it will be running the same driveline as the Cobalt, Norman will be right in the mix from the get-go.

West Aussie Gordon Crawford is a guy who really enjoys his ANDRA Drag Racing, but the more you get to know him, the more you learn that he is a good bloke too.

It's not an uncommon occurrence for WA drag racers in the Super Street category to line up against a Police Officer and race down the Perth Motorplex quarter-mile. After a long and productive service the recent WA Drag Racing Grand Finals, was the last championship event for Tango 1, a car that has been in competition since 2003 spreading it's message "Racing for Road Safety" and encouraging those who want to race to stay off the streets and head to the controlled environment of a race track.
