Rob Cassar plans to go ballistic this weekend aboard his nitrous-fed Kawasaki as the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship heads to Fuchs South Coast Raceway in Portland, Victoria.

As a Victorian racer Cassar has done many kilometres of travelling to chase championship rounds in the past and is eager for the return of championship drag racing to his home state for the first time since 2001.

Super Stock drag racer Darren Parker says Fuchs South Coast Raceway in Portland will see records fall when the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship hits the Victorian venue on January 5 and 6.

Parker said while racers in Super Stock will often try to protect their records by lowering them a little at a time, the same respect won’t be shown at Portland, where competition will be held over an eighth mile (201 metres) for the first time in the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship.

Ballarat drag racer Matt Forbes is sparing no expense to take a shot at the Super Gas title come the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship at Fuchs South Coast Raceway in Portland on January 5 and 6.

Forbes said the car suffered from a mysterious lack of horsepower at the Australian Nationals recently in Sydney and the team has been going over his Lucas Oil Products hot rod one piece at a time to find the gremlin.

Mildura drag racer Kingsley Kuchel may be relying on some warp drive speed when his swooping dragster beams down to Fuchs South Coast Raceway, Portland on January 5 and 6 for the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship.

Kuchel’s unique race car, competing in the Modified class, has been compared to a UFO and even the Batmobile by young race fans, something the 29 year old takes as a compliment.

The return of championship drag racing to Victoria is imminent with the running of the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship at Fuchs South Coast Raceway, Portland on January 5-6.

Greg and Kim Clayton had no plans for drag racing during 2012. It was decided to put their supercharged altered Competition car away in the workshop and concentrate on business and family life for the year.

Australian Modified Bike Champion Daniel Sekli is quietly confident as he prepares to race in Modified Bike as part of the Rocket Allstars Racing Series at the Nitro Champs at Sydney Dragway.

Sekli’s first trip to Sydney saw a hiccup when the Queenslander’s Kawasaki ZX-10R suffered engine damage during a pre-race test but the loan of Rapid Bikes Magazine’s Yamaha XJR1300 allowed him to contest the meeting, even if it was at slightly slower pace than he’s used to.

After an engine rebuild by Powerhouse Dynotuning, Sekli took victory at the Willowbank round of the Rocket Allstars Racing Series in January aboard his own 1050cc Kawasaki.
