With the change to a calendar year season, the period after the Fuchs Winternationals has now become a hotbed of activity for drag racing, particularly in regional areas. This June and July sees two first time events on the ANDRA…

Reigning Super Gas champion Simon Isherwood had one problem with his national title, it came without a national event win. But that all changed at the recent Nitro Champs at Sydney Dragway where he scored big with a finals win against Roy Romeo.

Dakota Ward earned the 60foot Rising Star Award at Sydney Dragway during last weekend’s Nitro Champs.

Reigning Australian Nationals champion Greg Clayton returned to his happy hunting ground of Sydney Dragway last weekend, claiming another finals appearance in Competition at the famed Nitro Champs.

Qualifying for the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship was completed on day one of the Nitro Champs at Sydney Dragway with many racers running sub-record passes in the cool weather.

Northern Territory Minister for Sport and Recreation Matt Conlan has announced that Alice Springs and the town’s dragway will be beamed into television screens around the country later this year, putting the Centre on the drag racing map.

Mr Conlan said the Territory Government had provided $17,000 to the Central Australian Drag Racing Association to help with presenting The Desert Nationals on the SBS television program, Speedweek.

“This support will provide terrific exposure for the Centre with thousands of viewers around Australia to watch the show,” Mr Conlan said.

“The two-day drag racing event will be filmed and then presented in a one hour show on ‘Speedweek’, a motorsports show aired on SBS around Australia on Sundays.

“This will help to grow the sport here in the Territory while showcasing the Centre as a tourist destination to viewers around Australia.”

At the conclusion of the scheduled final round at Portland for the Southern Super Gas Series, the series remained tied with Kym Oberauer and Matt Forbes on the same points.

Roma’s Laurie Fitzgerald is one racer who can’t wait to see the 2013 JP Racing Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series return to the new-look Ironbark Raceway come Saturday 27 April 2013.

Tasmanian Modified Bike racer Shane Walker will be hoping for crowd support of a different kind at this year’s Nitro Champs as he continues to promote the plight of one of his home state's most iconic symbols, the Tasmanian Devil.

The Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship completed a historic weekend at Fuchs South Coast Raceway in Portland on Sunday with Victorian Craig Geddes’ win in Super Comp sitting atop the list of highlights.

The first day of ANDRA championship drag racing in Victoria since 2001 saw Portland’s Fuchs South Coast Raceway come alive with over 150 race teams taking to the track in an historic round of the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship.

Rob Cassar plans to go ballistic this weekend aboard his nitrous-fed Kawasaki as the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship heads to Fuchs South Coast Raceway in Portland, Victoria.

As a Victorian racer Cassar has done many kilometres of travelling to chase championship rounds in the past and is eager for the return of championship drag racing to his home state for the first time since 2001.

Super Stock drag racer Darren Parker says Fuchs South Coast Raceway in Portland will see records fall when the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship hits the Victorian venue on January 5 and 6.

Parker said while racers in Super Stock will often try to protect their records by lowering them a little at a time, the same respect won’t be shown at Portland, where competition will be held over an eighth mile (201 metres) for the first time in the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship.

Ballarat drag racer Matt Forbes is sparing no expense to take a shot at the Super Gas title come the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship at Fuchs South Coast Raceway in Portland on January 5 and 6.

Forbes said the car suffered from a mysterious lack of horsepower at the Australian Nationals recently in Sydney and the team has been going over his Lucas Oil Products hot rod one piece at a time to find the gremlin.

Mildura drag racer Kingsley Kuchel may be relying on some warp drive speed when his swooping dragster beams down to Fuchs South Coast Raceway, Portland on January 5 and 6 for the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship.

Kuchel’s unique race car, competing in the Modified class, has been compared to a UFO and even the Batmobile by young race fans, something the 29 year old takes as a compliment.
