Adelaide gets a nitro taste.
Darren Morgan’s AEG Powertools Top Fuel Racing team continue to spread the ANDRA Pro Series Drag Racing message, doing demonstrations at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide this weekend alongside Fuchs Top Fuel driver Phil Lamattina, Gary Busch’s Top Alcohol Funny Car and the Supercharged Outlaw of Marco Elbe.
Morgan will have two opportunities at the Clipsal 500 to take to the track and create some noise for the expected 270,000-plus crowd.
“It will be the most powerful machine ever to take to the Clipsal track,” said Morgan. “It’s great that we can do things like this for our sponsors, but also access a new audience. Since Adelaide has been starved of professional drag racing – much like Melbourne, a vast majority of the attendees would never have felt the brute force of a Top Fuel Dragster.”
Morgan’s AEG Powertools Top Fuel Simulator will be in action for the fans during the weekend at the Clipsal 500 and will be performing start-ups each day.
The attendance at the Clipsal 500 has a dual purpose, with ANDRA taking the next round of the ANDRA Pro Series to Adelaide International Raceway across the weekend of April 13-15. With four Top Fuel cars already confirmed and several more awaiting confirmation it is set to be an awesome event.
“We can’t wait to get back to Adelaide, it’s going to be great,” the Mildura Missile said. “From all reports, the meeting held there not that long ago drew a huge and enthusiastic crowd.
“To race there again – over 1000 feet for the first time chasing championship points, will be special. We learnt heaps at Calder about racing over the shorter distance and we had some tough competition there, so we’re feeling pretty confident about it.”
Morgan was the quickest driver in all three sessions during the recent Fuchs Shootout at Calder Park. His times of 4.259 and 4.349 during the second and third sessions were the two fastest times of the event and as such are the two fastest times of the new 1000ft format in Australian Top Fuel racing. With a crowd of nearly 20,000 celebrating the return of Top Fuel drag racing to Melbourne, it was a significant development in Australian drag racing.
“To race at Calder Park was a significant turning point for our sport,” said Morgan. “We have not been in Melbourne for over 10 years and the enthusiasm of the crowd that turned out was infectious. It’s something that we cannot wait to do again and really support the return of championship drag racing to Calder.”
AEG Powertools took the opportunity to connect with the Melbourne fans handing out plenty of merchandise to the faithful, with several lucky fans getting the opportunity to stand on the startline for a once in a lifetime 8,000 horsepower experience.
Morgan’s runs at the Clipsal 500 this weekend will take place at 5:35pm on Saturday ahead of the Australian GT Championship twilight event. Darren Morgan Racing will have a static display in the main spectator area on the infield at the Clipsal 500.
