When the nation’s biggest country music festival gets underway at Willowbank Raceway this week (13-15 March), it will signal the beginning of an intense three months at the venue.
Within just a thirteen week period, Queensland’s premier drag racing facility will host CMC Rocks QLD (13-15 March), the Pro Street Shootout (21 March), round three and four of the Street Series (28 March and 2 May), the Santo’s Super 3 Extreme Drag Race Event presented by Uplift Cranes and Titan Cranes (Easter Saturday – 4 April), the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series (11 April), the Queensland Autospectacular (19 April), the JP Racing Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series (25 April), the Nostalgia Drags (26 April), round two of the Queensland Drag Racing Championships (16 May), the Winters Warm-Up (30 and 31 May) and the largest championship drag racing event held outside of North America, the FUCHS Winternationals (4-7 June).
In addition, a further 13 events where anyone can take their car or bike onto the track will also be held – including 11 Test n Tune events where everything from basic street cars and bikes to fully-fledged drag racing machines can be run down the quarter-mile, and two of the newly introduced ‘Race-a-Mate’ concept where road registered vehicles can take on each other in match racing.
In short, it is going to be a very hectic time at the Raceway, with Willowbank Raceway CEO Tony Manson urging race fans to plan ahead now to make sure they don’t miss a second of the action.
“The next thirteen weeks at Willowbank Raceway are most certainly action-packed, with everything from Test ‘n’ Tune events through to the largest championship drag racing event outside of North America which will host all six professional brackets,” said Manson.
“Fans don’t have to wait until June’s FUCHS Winternationals for professional-level competition either, with Easter Saturday hosting the third running of the Santo’s Super 3 Extreme Drag Race Event presented by Uplift Cranes and Titan Cranes in a new one-day format complete with nitro-burning Top Fuel and flame-throwing Top Alcohol, as well as Pro Mod, Factory Xtreme and Pro Street action.
“Spectator tickets for both the Santo’s Super 3 and the FUCHS Winternationals are available for purchase online now, with tickets for all other events to be available at the gate.
“With so much happening at the venue over the next 13 weeks, I really advise race fans to plan ahead and make sure they don’t miss out on their favourite events. Drag racing really is a sport that has to be seen to be believed, and there is truly something for everyone rolling out over the coming months with everything from nostalgia drags to eighth mile racing, sportsman action and the tough action of Pro Street as well as our two marquee events at Easter and in June, plus plenty of opportunities for people to get involved themselves and test their mettle on the race track.
“The Willowbank Raceway website (www.willowbankraceway.com.au) is the place to go for all the event information, full event calendars, and guides on how you can get involved in drag racing yourself. We can’t wait to see you all out here over the coming months!”
