The AEG Powertools-backed Darren Morgan Racing team heads to Sydney for the penultimate round of the ANDRA Pro Series Top Fuel Championships hoping they can turn their 122 point Championship margin into an unassailable lead – and the team has some extra assistance from Aeroflow Performance Products.
Buoyed by the additional support received by Hungry Jacks Mildura and once again partnering with Cowin Family Racing and Aeroflow for the Nitro Champs assault, the DMR team is aiming to have the gold Christmas Tree in its possession after the event this weekend.
The annual Nitro Champs is one of the biggest events on the ANDRA Pro Series calendar and this year’s event at Sydney International Dragway is no exception.
With nine of the nitro-munching 8000 horsepower machines on hand, it will be one of the best-patronised events this season.
Morgan extended his lead after victory at the most recent round of the Championship at Queensland’s Willowbank Raceway.
The Mildura Missile was able to drive around Championship rival Phil Lamattina (who had been the pace-setter all weekend long) in the semi-finals, before overcoming Steve Read in the final.
The long-searched for consistency from the Ben Patterson tuned dragster seems to be coming in spades of late – however Morgan is quick to warn that one can go from hero to zero in a millisecond in the cut and thrust of ANDRA Pro Series Top Fuel.
The Nitro Champs begin on Friday night, with qualifying continuing Saturday and eliminations on Sunday at Sydney Dragway, Eastern Creek.
The event will feature all ANDRA Pro Series categories.
MILDURA POWERSPORTS EASTER SHOOTOUT:
The AEG Powertools DMR team had a busy Easter weekend with the Mildura Powersports Easter Shootout.
Whilst the car had an engine problem prior to its first run, the tyres smoked off the line in run number two and Morgan put on a pedalfest for the big local contingent.
The team from Hungry Jacks Mildura were on hand and were able to get up close to the action.
WHAT DARREN HAD TO SAY:
“It’s a good feeling to be leading the ANDRA Top Fuel Championship, but that means you have a target on your back – everyone’s working harder to knock you off your pedestal.
“Sydney this weekend is going to be really tough. There are nine racers out there all striving for the same thing.
“We’ve got the Championship lead, but by no means are we walking in absolutely believing we’ll walk away with the Championship. We cannot be that cocky.
“The car has been very consistent of late, we’re getting good numbers and the boys have been doing a stellar job – they are a great bunch, all from Mildura and all of them are volunteers on our program.
“We’re so happy to be continuing DMR’s long term relationship with Graeme and Wendy Cowin from Rocket Industries and Aeroflow Performance Products for the assault on the Nitro Champs.
“The team is very fortunate to be carrying Aeroflow support as well as flying the AEG Powertools and Hungry Jacks Mildura colours again.
“Without those companies and our other corporate partners all getting behind us and lending their support, we wouldn’t be able to do this.”
