Peter Kapiris can’t wait to get racing in the ANDRA Drag Racing Series tomorrow at the Southern Nationals presented by Fiat Professional & Essendon Chrysler Jeep Dodge.

After the successful return of Top Fuel to Calder Park at Fuchs Nitro Thunder last year, Pro Stock, Pro Stock Motorcycle and Top Doorslammer all make their first ANDRA Drag Racing Series appearances at the iconic venue since 2001.

And Kapiris couldn’t be happier to be competing at his home track.

“As far as having a race meeting in Melbourne I’m over the moon,” he said. “There’s nothing like being able to put your car in the trailer and drive to the track. It’s great to have racing back in Melbourne, especially ANDRA racing.”

“I’ve got over 200 tickets for friends, family and co-workers coming to watch and if that isn’t enough to pump you up nothing is.”

Kapiris sits seventh in the points standings after a DNQ in Round 1, a Championship win in Round 2 and a holeshot elimination win over John Zappia in Round 3.

With only 60 points separating the top eight, the Southern Nationals represent a great opportunity for the Melton resident to make up ground but the Batman just wants to put on a show for friends and family.

“This is a meeting where I’ll just say to the boys that I don’t care. I just want to run good here. Throw everything to the wind, I want to perform well in front of friends and family.”

“I travel everywhere and your fans are your fans but to have all of your family, your brothers there, nephews, cousins, granddaughter. I can’t wait, I’m really buzzing!”

Qualifying gets under way in the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship this Friday April 4 from 1pm. Top Doorslammer, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle hit the track from 5:45pm.

The action continues from 12pm Saturday April 5 with eliminations scheduled from 3:10pm.
