The ANDRA Pro Series will be backed up by a strong field of Australia’s best sportsman racers when it returns to Adelaide on April 13, 14 and 15.

Extreme Outlaws, Modified, Super Sedan, Modified Bike, Super Street, Super Gas and Junior Dragster will provide plenty of action on the Adelaide International Raceway drag strip in addition to the ANDRA Pro Series categories of Top Fuel, Top Alcohol, Top Bike and Pro Stock Motorcycle.

The hardcore fans of drag racing will be excited by the development of Extreme Outlaws as a one off for this event. The category will allow any engine type including V8s, six cylinders, four cylinders and rotaries as long as they are supercharged, turbocharged or nitrous assisted, run on dial in handicapping with a limit of 6.50 or quicker for the 1000 feet distance

Event manager Rino D’Alfonso said the rivalries will really get a chance to boil in Extreme Outlaws.

“The supercharged guys all like to think they have the horsepower to themselves but the turbo racers all think they are the next generation,” he said. “And they both like to gang up on nitrous racers. Well it’s time to end the trash talk and let them sort it out with their racing.”

Potential entrants should be aware that only 32 drivers/riders will be accepted for each category (16 for Super Gas) as pit space will be at a premium for the event, which has generated a lot of anticipation in the Adelaide motorsport fan base and around Australia. Around 250 teams in total, including the drivers and riders of the ANDRA Pro Series, are expected.

ANDRA events and operations manager Brenton Myers said there had been interest Australia wide in the event.

“There have been people from Western Australia, the Northern Territory and all across the eastern seaboard wanting to know more about this Adelaide event,” he said. “There is a lot of positivity about this comeback for drag racing.”

Mr Myers said the mix of brackets would provide places for most teams to race and there is intention to hold a round of the national Rocket Allstars Racing Series for sportsman teams at Adelaide International Raceway next season.

“ANDRA drag racing has a real depth in the sportsman area and we’d really like to get Group Two in particular back into South Australia,” he said. “The development of indexes for new racing distances is a time consuming task and one we want to get right.

“That is why we have gone with the mix of dial your own and fixed index handicapping for this event as a starter, before we move to the next stage of bringing full ANDRA racing back to Adelaide which will include Group Two.”

Racers interested in competing should contact Rino D’Alfonso on 0419 722 464 as soon as possible to express their interest.
