Top Alcohol national record holder Steve Ham has released a preview of his new look Ford Mustang Funny Car body with some new partners on board for the Australian Nationals and next season.
Queensland Rock Breakers along with one of their leading brands, Everdigm, have lodged their support for the 2014 ANDRA championship season, while naming rights sponsor East Coast Lubes have re-signed for the next season, believing that this is the best chance for Ham’s TSP Racing outfit to claim their maiden title.
The announcements are perfect timing for the team, who will head into next weekend’s finals with the express purpose of winning and resetting their national records.
Ham is coming off victory at Darwin’s Hidden Valley Drag Strip, where he defeated John Cannuli in the final
“It’s like Christmas has come early for us having a multi-national throw their weight behind us for next season,” Ham said. “Everdigm is making massive inroads into the rock breaking market here in Australia and Queensland Rock Breakers are their biggest sellers in the state, so along with RD Williams, we’ve got all the big names in the industry on board.
“We’re still waiting for the light decals to arrive to finish it off, but we’re really excited about what extra aero dynamic edge we could get out of this body. In theory it should hold down firmer than the old body so can only help us with consistency.”
Ham is the national speed and elapsed time record holder for Top Alcohol Funny Car, covering the quarter mile in just 5.46 seconds and reaching 426 kilometres per hour. But Ham believes there’s more in the tank that could better the records again.
“It’s just so exciting for us, holding the records, but still knowing there’s more in it,” he said. “We will be keen to continue our form from Darwin next weekend and see if we can really set the scene for next season.”
