Australian Top Fuel Motorcycle champion Chris Porter and the Bad Bones Racing Top Fuel Harley are set to defend the #1 plate and home turf Sydney Dragway this weekend.
Porter goes into the X-Champs after collecting “some very good data” from the Santos Super 3 Extreme Drag Race at Willowbank Raceway over Easter where he match raced with Chris Matheson and the Nitro Voodoo team laying down side by side 6s over 200 mph for the fans.
“The new fuel and clutch combo is coming together with a solid 6.80 at 211 mph and with 40 percent slip on the whole pass there’s a lot of room for improvement,” he said.
“With an over subscribed field and seven of the ten bikes running sixes we’re going too have to be on our game.”
Porter tested on Wednesday breaking a belt on his first pass and nearly experiencing a Chris Matheson style blow off at 800 feet on the second. But the day ended with a solid 6.74 at 208 mph.
“The plan was to get full lock up on the new clutch as we know the fuel system makes enough power to drive through more weight than we ever had on before.”
“Low sixes and 220 mph are the plan for this weekend.”
Meanwhile Rob Cassar will be the “cat amongst the pigeons” riding the only nitrous bike in a field packed with nitro Top Fuel Motorcycles.
“We’re the little engine that could!” said Cassar. “With a big field of nitro bikes, some of the toughest bikes in the country, and one little nitrous bike we really have our work cut out for us.”
Stepping up from Modified Bike this weekend, Cassar hopes to ride the first nitrous bike into the six-second zone.
“We have dropped 30 pounds out of our set up and we have a spare bullet ready to go if necessary. We have had the opportunity to do some testing with Calder up and running and are looking forward to the competitive field.”
The X-Champs at Sydney Dragway get underway from 9:30 am on Friday May 2 with qualifying in the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship continuing from 9:30 am Saturday May 3.
