This Saturday, Competition Bike will make a return to Adelaide International Raceway for the first time in three years as part of the weekend’s Spring Nationals – round four of the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series.
Amongst the field will be local racer and 1991 Pro Stock Motorcycle Champion, Phil ‘Blue’ Howard.
A veteran of the sport, Howard says he is looking forward to racing locally this weekend.
“It has been many years since I raced Competition Bike at Adelaide. I have run in the Pro Stock Bike and Top Fuel Motorcycle a few years ago, but it has been quite a few years for Competition Bike, that is for sure,” said Howard, who thanked Steve and Renee Cockerill for their help with his racing program.
“It will be a bit of a challenge for me, but one I am looking forward to. I have been running on the ‘heads up, pro tree’ for a while, so facing the handicap tree will be a bit of a change for me.
“Once we get some runs under our belts, I think I will get up to speed and I am looking forward to racing at home. With all the travelling interstate to race, you don’t get to see your local racers as much, so I am looking forward to catching up with all my local mates on Saturday at the track.
“Before I do though, I need to get the thing running! I made a rookie error when I raced it back in June with a new oxidated race fuel which is very corrosive, and I used a different fuel churn to what I would usually and basically, it ate it!
“All of this dissolved elastic rubber when right through the motor, the carbuertor and the fuel and gunked everything up, so it was not a good weekend for me.
“The first time I got it running after it ran like a pig and I haven’t taken it down the track since then, but I am hopeful we will be all good for this weekend.
“In theory, this could be my last hurrah this season before I settle down to old age, but then again, I will probably change my mind again!” laughed Howard.
Howard and the rest of the Competition Bike field will be joined at Adelaide International Raceway for the Spring Nationals this Saturday.
The October 14 event is round four of the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series, and will host racers from the Modified, Top Sportsman, Supercharged Outlaws, Super Sedan, Denso Super Street, Modified Bike, Summit Racing Equipment Junior Dragster, Super Gas, Competition, Competition Bike and Super Stock brackets, as well as the Difilippo AUS v USA Jet Cars.
