Victorian Pro Stock Motorcycle racer Glenn Wooster is hoping a strong finish to the ANDRA season will see him able to better a career best of fourth position in the points, with three events remaining for the year.
Out of all the ANDRA pro categories, Pro Stock Motorcycle will be the busiest in coming months with next month’s round at the Lady Daly Hotel Springnationals in Adelaide, Fuchs Nitro Thunder presented by Crow Cams in Melbourne and the Australian Nationals in November.
Wooster said his Wheelie Waste team will need a good start to the trio of events, beginning with Adelaide International Raceway (AIR).
“If we could kick some goals in Adelaide then it will certainly help get us on the right track to improving our championship position,” he said. “We have the right people behind us including Trevor Birrell who has a lot of experience racing at AIR.”
Wooster currently sits fifth in the points, with fourth placed Scott White just three points ahead while Luke Crowley, Maurice Allen and Lachlan Ireland hold the top three positions respectively.
As part of his plan to finish out the season well, Wooster said Birrell, who has tuned and built engines for over ten ANDRA championships in the category, has been making some changes that could provide the extra boost in horsepower needed.
“Trevor has been good enough to develop an engine program with us and we are starting to get there now,” he said. “I don’t want to say too much but we have been running consistently in the 7.4 second zone so we might turn the wick up further.”
Adelaide International Raceway’s unique all-bitumen racing surface provides the teams with a challenge every time but Wooster said he was impressed by the improvement of the surface since the return of ANDRA championship drag racing in 2012.
“It is a different surface to contend with. You get wheel spin in areas you don’t normally and we make a lot of clutch changes to deal with track conditions,” he said. “In saying that it was fairly warm last time and the track was still bitey, they did a great job to give us the track surface that they did.”
All going well in Adelaide, the Pro Stock Motorcycle contingent will then head to Calder Park to race for championship points for the first time since 2001 at Fuchs Nitro Thunder presented by Crow Cams.
Wooster is excited he will finally be able to show his team’s abilities in front of supporters from his home state.
“2000 was the last time I rode there, Calder used to be our home track,” he said. “We have a lot of followers from Victoria so to have a track again in our own backyard will be great.”
The Lady Daly Hotel Springnationals run from September 20-21 at Adelaide International Raceway and will feature championship racing across Top Doorslammer, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycles.
