Thanks to the support of North Coast Wholesale cars and Richmond Valley Council, Summerland Drags will run its second 2014 event on Sunday, June 22 on the Casino airstrip, racing from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm.
Summerland Drags operates the only drag strip In NSW which supports a Live Timing facility.
Live timing allows anybody at the strip or elsewhere to check out any competitor’s elapsed time for each race on the eighth mile [201 meters] within seconds. This means that as soon as a competitor returns to the pits, he or she can check out their elapsed time on their smart phone, tablet or laptop.
Live Timing is a complex internet operation using software developed by Summerland Drags volunteer Danny Bald. It also relies on the rapid data input typing skills of Summerland Drags volunteers Donna Lamont and Melissa Wood.
Also on track June 22 and back by popular demand, the Drifters will return to Summerland Drags.
The Drifters – Perry McPherson and Mitch Kaehler – wowed the crowd at the April event with their ability to gently waltz their hi-powered Nissan Skylines from side to side on the strip. Newcomers to the art of automotive drifting were gobsmacked. They likened drifting to ice skating, ballet or ballroom dancing.
Summerland Drags plans to produce a short clip for You-tube and Facebook of this event’s drifting demonstration. The vision will be to the Blue Danube waltz, sans the turbo-charged engine roar of the Drifters’ Skylines.
