MacMahon, the construction company responsible for building the all new Hidden Valley Drag Strip today announced it had reached an agreement to be the Naming Rights Sponsor for the upcoming Grand Re-Opening on the 13-14 May.
MacMahon won the tender to rebuild Hidden Valley in July 2010 and has been working tirelessly to deliver a facility which Territory drag racers and fans can be proud of.
Encompassing an International class quarter mile drag strip, enhanced spectator facilities, a new timing system and a dedicated burnout pad, MacMahon and a host of local, national and international subcontractors were able to deliver the largest single upgrade to Hidden Valley Drag Strip since it was originally built in 1984.
MacMahon’s assistance has secured the involvement of 10 Doorslammer teams who will be travelling to Darwin to take part in the opening, making it the largest drag racing event to be hosted at Hidden Valley.
“After delivering an award winning drag strip we wanted to see how it would react to some of Australia’s best drag racers” said MacMahon Project Manager, Graham Gust. “What better way than to be there on the night and see them in action.”
Hidden Valley Drag Racing Association President, Jay Jukes commended MacMahon for their involvement in the Grand Re-Opening.
“We have been working closely with MacMahon over the last 10 months to provide the best possible outcomes for drag racing in the Top End.” said Jukes.
“Today’s announcement is a testament to their commitment to the sport.”
Hosted over two big nights, the MacMahon Grand Re-Opening of Hidden Valley Drag Strip will get underway from 7pm on Friday 13 May during two scheduled qualifying sessions which will feature the Territory’s best drag racing brackets, as well as the elite Top Doorslammer class. A final qualifying session will then start from 4pm on Saturday 14 May before the official opening at 6pm.
