Just one month to the largest championship drag racing event held outside of the USA: FUCHS Winternationals at Willowbank Raceway (5-8 June, 2014)
With the weekend’s X-Champs at Sydney Dragway run and won, Australia’s drag racers are now turning their attention to Willowbank Raceway’s FUCHS Winternationals (5-8 June) – the next stop on the national title chase.
The largest championship drag racing event held outside of the USA is now just four weeks away at Queensland’s premier drag racing facility, and following the weekend’s Street Series event there is only the third round of the QLD Drag Racing Championship and the official Winters Warm-Up event to go before the facility is overtaken by up to 500 racers and up to 30,000 spectators across Thursday 5 to Sunday 8 June.
The X-Champs saw a number of Queensland racers signal their intentions for the June Queen’s Birthday long weekend, with Steven Reed (Top Alcohol), Aaron Tremayne (Pro Stock), Kevin Cleeve (Modified Bike) and Dale Duffy (Junior Dragster) all claiming victory while Rodney Hansen (Supercharged Outlaws) and David Gauldie (Super Gas) also enjoyed final appearances.
“What a great showing the Queenslanders had at the X-Champs in Sydney, everyone at Willowbank Raceway sends their congratulations to all of the local racers who travelled to Sydney – we can’t wait to see them in action at the FUCHS Winternationals in a month’s time,” said Willowbank Raceway CEO Tony Manson.
“Entries for the FUCHS Winternationals are open until 5.00pm EST on Wednesday 14 May, and with time ticking down I encourage everyone to get in quick to secure their spot for what is shaping up to be another amazing event.
“There is a reason this event is the largest championship drag racing event held outside of the USA – it is a real jewel in the crown of both Willowbank Raceway and the Australian drag racing industry overall and we can’t wait to welcome all of the ANDRA championship brackets on-track over the June long weekend.”
Following the weekend’s X-Champs three Queenslanders will lead their brackets to their home-track – Aaron Tremayne (Pro Stock), Luke Crowley (Pro Stock Motorcycle) and John Cannuli in Top Alcohol – a bracket whose entire top five lists Queensland as their home (Cannuli, Gary Phillips, Steven Reed, Steven Ham, Debbie O’Rourke).
Also leading their ‘professional’ brackets to the June event will be John Zappia (Top Doorsalmmer), Santo’s Super 3 Extreme Drag Race event winner Allan Dobson (Top Fuel), and Mark Drew (Top Fuel Motorcycle) – all from Western Australia. The FUCHS Winternationals will be held across the Queen’s Birthday long weekend (Thursday 5 June to Sunday 8 June 2014). Entries close at 5.00pm EST on Wednesday 16 May 2014, with up to 500 racers expected from all across the country to compete in front of approximately 30,000 spectators across the four days.
For spectators, a range of ticketing options are available including special pre-purchase online-only multi-day event passes. Students and Concession card (age and disability pension only) holders with photo ID gain discounts, while children aged 13 and under gain free entry.
