Robin Judd is hopeful a new partnership will help him regain the (Australian National Drag Racing Association) ANDRA Pro Series Top Doorslammer championship lead at Willowbank Raceway, Ipswich, on January 14-15.
UPDATE: Event Cancelled
Perth-based Robin Judd Racing (RJR) has entered into a partnership agreement with Aeroflow Performance Products and Mickey Thompson performance tyres and wheels.
Judd, who unexpectedly lost in the first round at the recent Goldenstates Title at the Perth Motorplex, is hoping the new partnership will deliver his first win at Willowbank in 10 years and at the same time, reclaim the Top Doorslammer championship lead.
Aeroflow Performance Products – a new brand on the Australian motoring market – and Mickey Thompson principal, Graeme Cowin, said his organisation chose Robin Judd Racing because it is a professional and successful team.
“Aeroflow and Mickey Thompson are quality brands and Robin Judd Racing is a quality team,” Cowin said.
“Robin Judd presents himself very professionally; he runs a professional racing operation, has a passion for what he does and has a professional and first class crew alongside him.”
“I am confident hooking up with Mickey Thompson record-setting performance tyres and Aeroflow will give Judd the edge he needs to win this year’s championship.”
Cowin believes the Robin Judd Racing association with Aeroflow and Mickey Thompson will be a long and successful one.
“We at Aeroflow and Mickey Thompson are looking forward to a long and successful relationship with Robin Judd Racing. This partnership is based on quality. A quality person, quality team, quality race car and quality brands,” Cowin said.
Judd said RJR had decided to change to Mickey Thompson tyres prior to entering into the partnership arrangement.
“Coincidentally we had changed to Mickey Thompson tyres just before Graeme (Cowin) approached me with the partnership offer. The Aeroflow range of high pressure fittings look great and are top quality, so we are also in the process of using the product on the car,” Judd said.
“Robin Judd Racing is proud and excited to be representing Aeroflow and Mickey Thompson in the ANDRA Pro Series. Both are quality brands and we have no hesitation is endorsing the products.”
Judd won his first-ever event at Willowbank in April 2000. He then went to the semi final at the next two events and the final at his fourth Willowbank event.
Over the past two years, since the January 2009 New Year Series, Judd has been to four finals and a semi final at Willowbank.
While the supercharged Doorslammers find the conditions challenging at Willowbank at this time of the year, Judd ran his fastest-ever pass, 249.31mph, on the way to the January 2009 final. He also ran the quickest time for the event, 5.959-seconds.
Judd won the season-opening Australian Nationals title at Sydney Dragway in September – for the second time – however, after losing in round one at the Perth event, slipped to second place in the championship series.
“We missed a great opportunity to capitalise on our points lead in Perth. Now with Aeroflow and Mickey Thompson on board, we are hoping for a change of luck that will see us regain the championship lead,” Judd said.
In the ANDRA Top Doorslammer Pro Series, Judd is in second place with 200 points, behind Mark Belleri (227pts) and ahead of Maurice Fabietti (186pts) and John Zappia (151pts).
Aeroflow Performance Products and Mickey Thompson performance tyres and wheels are distributed nationally by Rocket Industries and other state distributors.
